DIY the Fun Kids Ball Pit

Build this extremely fun kid's ball pit that will keep your little loved ones entertained for hours, and it's a 35" deep pit!

Vacations are about to get fun! This PVC ball pit is very easy to build and when you have toddlers, you can adjust the design to a lower pit. We recommend a height of 11.8'' in that case. Choose your favorite fabrics and floating noodles in case you want to secure the edges of the pit and we highly recommend foam mats underneath the ball pit.

Let us guide you step by step in building this amazing ball pit.

Ideal for: Gardens, living rooms, kids' rooms, backyards and kids' parties.

Kids Ball Pit Assembly Steps

How do you know which part is which from the parts list? Click on "Edit Design in 3D" button above and you'll be able to click on each part to see its name.

Step 1. Let's build the Main Frame of the Ball Pit

Ready for this PVC project! To build this group of parts, you must carefully measure all your PVC pipes and cut them in the following order!

Sixteen  2" PVC tube - 35" long

Eight  2” 3-way outlet

Eight 2” Tee slips

Grab your 2" 3 Way outlet and add the solvent cement to one of the ends and place in the 2" tube - 35" long. Make sure you also add cement to the extremities through which they will connect. This solvent cement dries fast, so make sure you place all the parts together quickly once you add the cement.

Then grab your 2" tee slip and put in the 2" tube containing the solvent cement and each edge.

Grab your second 2'' Tube - 35'' long and add a 2" 3-way outlet facing up. We are starting with the base of our Ball Pit, so all your 3-way outs must be facing up.

Once you've installed that 3-way outlet on both corners of your superior pipe, you'll start adding the 2" tubes - 35" long on each side of the superior pipe. We suggest you build it evenly, meaning that once you fix a tube on one side, do the same on the other in order to double-check that your square is perfect.

Please refer to the image above and follow the same instructions as with your first pipe, starting with a 3-way outlet, then a 2" Tube - 35" long, then a 2” tee slip and then again a 2” Tube - 35” long.  The corners must always be the 3-way outlets. Repeat this same assembly until you create a perfect square.

You'll need 2 frames of these, one being the base and the other the superior frame.

Step 2. Bring Together the Frames of the Ball Pit

Once you have the 2 main frames ready, you can simply unite them with your 2" PVC tubes.

For this step you'll need:.

Eight 2" Tubes - 35" long

Fit each 35” long PVC tube to each Tee Slip and 3-Way outlet. You must place solvent cement on each end of the tube and inside the tee slip or 3-way outlet.

We recommend you get an extra pair of hands to help out. You can fix the tube to fit the superior frame and then onto the inferior. The same goes for each tube. Or place them first onto the base frame and then onto the superior frame, making sure all PVC tubes are straight.

Just remember that your solvent cement dries fast.

You now have the pit ready for the finishes, you can either wrap the base and laterals with fabric or plastic. This depends on your style. We also recommend floating noodles in PVC tubes on the superior edge of the pit.

Step 3. Let’s Assemble the Stairs of the Ball Pit

Now it's time for the stairs; we're almost done! We will make two stairs for assembly, one on the inside of the ball pit and the other outside.

For this step you'll need the following pieces:

Four 2” Elbow slips

Four 2” Tubes - 15” long

Eight 2” Tee slips

Four 2” Tube - 20” long

Four 2” Tube - 35” long

Four  2” 3-way outlet

Four 2” Tube - 5” long

Eight  2” Cap slips

Four 2” Tube - 5” long

You'll start with the 2" elbow, add some solvent cement inside and then add to the edge of the 2" PVC tube- 15" long.

Then you add the cement to the inferior edge of the tube, and fix it to the 2" Tee Slip.

We recommend working on assembling both tubes, the left and right tubes that will be fixed together by the 2'' tube- 20'' long tube that will be placed in the center of the tubes. Please see the image above for reference.

Once you have added the 20" tube as one of the steps of the stairs, add the second 2" tube - 15" long to the tee slip on both sides. Then grab your other 2" tee slip and add the second step of the stairs and fix together both tubes. In the bottom hole of the tee slip, add a final 2" tube but this time it's 35" long.

When you place the tubes on both sides, we will now pass to the end of the stairs and build the support for the stairs.

Onto the 35" long PVC tube, we will add the 2'' 3-way outlet parts on both sides. We will add the same parts to each of the holes, starting with the 2" tube - 5" long and then sealing it with a 2" cap slip.

You’ll do the same on both sides.

And with this step done, you have yourself half the stairs.

Repeat the same for the stairs inside the ball pit, just make sure that your superior 2" elbows are facing each other and that the supports are always facing the front of the stairs.

Step 4. Bring Together the Interior and Exterior Stairs

This final part is easy to do. Let both our stairs dry perfectly, and then we will just fix them together with a final PVC Tube.

For this step you'll need:.

Two 2” Tube - 8” long.

This tube will be placed on the 2'' elbows of each stair. Add solvent cement to each edge and make sure the tube has been inserted equally on both sides.

And there you have it, a nice ball pit with stairs!
